Confederation of African Football President Ahmad banned by FIFA for five years

Zurich (AP)-Confederation of African Football President Ahmad Ahmad was banned by FIFA for five years on Monday due to financial misconduct.

The ban was announced during a campaign by Madagascar officials who would be reelected as the head of African football for another four years. His position also makes him Vice President of FIFA.

The FIFA Ethics Committee found that “Ahmad violated his loyalty obligations, provided gifts and other benefits, mismanaged funds, and abused his position as CAF president.”

Ahmad’s first four-year term was clouded by financial and fraudulent allegations at the Confederation of African Football Headquarters in Cairo.

The CAF election is scheduled for March 12 in Rabat, Morocco.
