New York (CBSNewYork) – Caught in a daytime camera: Two men slowly move a non-owned refrigerator.
It belonged to the community of Midwood, Brooklyn.
“Good for people, said Wakir Ahmed, founder of the Pakistan American Youth Organization (PAYO).
Ahmed is a man who installed a community fridge and says he went out on Friday, September 17th.
“There is no refrigerator,” he said.
Ahmed checked his surveillance and saw it incredibly.
“The man thought this was trash,” he said. “Like they paid it. They didn’t pay for it. It’s the money of organizations, money, people.”
Since April, it has helped supplement food for hungry people between the distribution of PAYO’s food pantry.
“This refrigerator served more than 100 people daily,” said Ahmed.
The power cord will now wait for replacement.
Members of the community shared different reactions to the theft.
“Shame them. They are angry, greedy, stingy, or something,” said one.
“Many people need things for COVID,” said Rob Reading of Midwood.
“Are you more compassionate?” Murdoch said.
“Of course, it’s a refrigerator,” said Reading.
“I can’t say anything. I feel very sad about this,” said Mossan Ali.
“They should be ashamed. That’s all I say,” Ahmed said.
Essentials are stocked in the refrigerator twice a day. It is loved by people in this community for its milk, yogurt and onions.
“We have Pakistan, Bangladesh, Turkey and Africa. We all love onions,” said Ahmed.

The NYPD says there were no arrests.
