According to police, a veteran Colorado police officer was killed alongside an innocent bystander when he confronted a shooter in Alvada, a suburb of Denver, on Monday.
The suspect was also killed by police after the first deadly clash. The names of the people involved were not announced at a press conference by the Alvada police station late Monday afternoon.
An unnamed police officer answered a phone call at about 1:15 pm in a “suspicious incident” near a library in Alvada’s Old Town district, Deputy Police Chief Ed Brady told reporters.
Fifteen minutes later, Brady said he received a 911 call to report gunshots and police downs.

“At this point, we believe this person was shot and killed by a shooter,” he said in a briefing.
“We are working to identify this individual and will publish more information. The coroner’s office will publish more information as it becomes available.”
“One suspect will also be shot dead and his identity will be released by the coroner’s office,” he said.
“At this point, there is no threat to the general public. We are not looking for anyone else. Shelter-in-place has been lifted.”
