Choose 6, Ave Maria sends Tulsa to a wild comeback victory over Tulane

Tulsa, Oklahoma-The Vencolins returned a 96-yard passcut for a touchdown in the second extra time, giving Tulsa 25 a 30-24 comeback victory on Thursday night.

Tulsa (5-1, 5-0 American Athletic Conference) was forced to work overtime when 37 yards of Ave Maria timed out, and third stringer Brin Davis connected to Juan Carlos Santana.

Davis entered in the third quarter leaving 2:09 after backup Seth Boomer was added to the cart from the field due to a left leg injury. Starter Zack Smith left with a torso injury in the second half of the first quarter.

He played his first game as a ranked team since 2008, beating Tulane 522 yards to 302, but spinning the ball more than three times. Tulsa entered the fourth quarter and dragged 14-0. In the fourth game of the season, the Golden Hurricane won by overcoming a deficit of over 14 points.

Davis completed 18 out of 28 passes with 266 yards and two touchdowns in his first meaningful college action. He made an 18-yard TD run with 9:17 remaining.

Corey Taylor II carried the ball for the first time in four games, winning 132 yards in Tulsa’s 19th carry.

Tulane (5-5, 2-5) had a 38-12 victory at the time-no. The 25 Navy defeated their ranked opponent for the first time in 36 years last week, and almost again in just five days.

Stephen Huderson ran 106 yards with a 25-carry on the Green Wave. This includes the first TD of the contest with a 5 yard run remaining 5:25 in the third quarter. Larry Brooks made a passcut and regained the Green Wave fumble.
