Child tax credit 2021: When checks begin to be issued and eligible families

The Washington-White House called on Monday to raise awareness of the federal government’s new expanded child tax credit. And it begins to be paid monthly in July to families with children under the age of 17.

Vice President Kamala Harris spoke at the Recreation Center in Pittsburgh as part of a broader promotion to promote the program in collaboration with churches, schools and other organizations.

“When more families know how they can get relief, that’s the way we can save our children from poverty,” Harris said.

The administration has launched a website https://childtaxcredit.gov Potential recipient details. As part of President Joe Biden’s $ 1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package, eligible families can receive up to $ 3,600 per child under the age of six. The tax credit is $ 3,000 per child between the ages of 6 and 17 per year.

Democrats in the Philadelphia region are also trying to send a message.

“This is the most important proposal and law to reduce child poverty in the United States since 1965,” said Congressman Brendan Boyle.

Payments are made monthly in the first month of the program. You can enroll in the program without having to fully file your tax returns.

The program will expire in a year, but Biden is proposing to extend it to 2025 with the ultimate goal of making the program permanent.

This year, Americans only had to file tax returns if they earned $ 24,800 as a couple, $ 18,650 as a householder, or $ 12,400 as a single filer. If your total income in 2020 is below these levels, you can sign up to receive a monthly child tax credit payment. Use simple tools for non-filers available On the IRS website.

If you think your 2020 income means you’re required to file a tax return, it’s not too late. You can continue to file your tax return in 2021 to receive a monthly child tax credit payment, other tax incentives, or a refund you are eligible to claim. To submit an overdue return, please visit the IRS website.

Where do IRS send money?

The IRS sends payments by deposit directly to your registered bank account. If you do not have your bank account information, a check will be mailed to you.
