Bunting ceremony in Brooklyn honors FDNY firefighter who died after being seriously injured in training accident
Brooklyn (WABC) — Firefighters will place black and purple bunting outside Brownsville’s Rescue Company 2 on Sunday to honor members of this team who have passed away tragically.
Members of the FDNY lined up outside NYU Langone Hospital Saturday night as the body of firefighter William “Billy” Moon II was transferred.
He fell at least 20 feet from a height while training on Monday. Moon was 47 years old.
He raised his family in Islip, where his neighbors now respect him.
Bobby Mason said, “It’s like a bad dream. This shouldn’t happen.” Together, we put a light there.”
Mr. Moon’s family says his organs will be donated to provide the miracle of Christmas to others.
Bunting ceremony is scheduled for 10am
Besides his work at FDNY, Moon was also the former chief of Islip. The weight casts a shadow over the holidays, which line the streets with bunting. She flies her flag at half-staff.
Moon’s death is very unacceptable for Islip. Because it’s the second time this year that one of their own has been fatally injured during his FDNY mission.
Back in February, Jesse Gerhardt collapsed and died at fire station after fighting fire in QueensGerhardt was also a volunteer for Islip.
Meanwhile, Moon leaves behind two young children. His wife released a statement on Friday read by her FDNY Commissioner Laura Cabana.
“His love and passion for his work was far from the walls of the fire department. He instilled that same passion in our children, constantly telling them how important it is to help others. I did,” she said.
Those who knew him best are now preparing for a painful funeral.
