Bruins outplay Islanders in shootout

Jake DeBlask had two goals and an assist, setting the stage for a shootout winner for David Pasternak when the Boston Bruins beat the visiting New York Islanders 4-3 on Tuesday night.
Derek Forboat also scored and Pavel Zacha had two assists for Boston. This is his 15-0 on the ice this season and he’s 3-1 in the last four games.
Linus Urmark made 23 saves and thwarted the final two shootout attempts. Josh Bailey stopped his final attempt after Pasternak snapped the third round winner.
The highlight of extra time was when Urmark stopped Jean-Gabriel Pagot’s backhand attempt at 1:41.
Bailey and Noah Dobson led the Islanders in goals and assists respectively, with Brock Nelson providing two helpers. Casey Cizikas also scored.
Semyon Varlamov stopped 30 shots, including nine in the third period and six in overtime.
Boston had a 33-26 shot advantage in 65 minutes.
The Islanders are currently 2-4-1 in their last seven games.
New York created many chances in front of Urmark, but Boston overcame a shaky start and scored two DeBlask goals 19 seconds apart to take a 2–0 lead. The first was a hint of Pasternak’s power play point shot at 6:48, within the same minute that Pajo hit the post.
DeBrusk completed his second multi-goal game of the season at the 7:07 mark after an intended centering pass to Forbort bounced off Bailey’s stick and passed through Varlamov.
The Islanders made it 2-1 as Bailey got the final deflection with Dobson’s shot from above the right circle at 11:00.
Dobson’s one-timer from the right point allowed New York to even the score at 11:43 in the second. Bailey sent the puck from low to high and found the defense from under the right circle.
The Bruins regained the lead at 3-2 with 1:32 remaining in the middle frame. Forbolt scored a short-handed goal to beat Varlamov’s gloveside high from the slot.
New York bounced back with a third equalizing goal at 4 minutes and 40 seconds. Cizikas inserted a ricocheted wraparound on Fourbolt’s skate following Sebastian Ajo’s shot from high.
With 5:05 remaining, Varlamov made a big post-to-post pad save to take away Streaking Pastanak and help send the game into overtime.
