As CBS2’s Nick Caloway reports, they can celebrate big nights for free.
Countless junior and senior high school students stopped by the prom shop in the basement of the Covenant Church in the Promised Land to prepare for a big night.
“I feel good. Yeah, I feel good. I feel great,” said Angel Milan, a second-year middle school student.
You could choose from hundreds of suits and dresses, all donated and all were the same price: free.
The Bronx District Law Firm, along with Bronx Fashion Week, has put together a prom shop on empowering young people.
“This is more than just giving clothes,” said Flora Montes of Bronx Fashion Week. “When you wear something, you feel better about yourself, your self-esteem, and your self-confidence.”
Clothes may be free, but student reactions are valuable.
“I found something that was right for me, and it’s pretty. Yes, I’m very happy,” said Margarita Capitia, a sophomore in middle school.
12th grade Ada Marie Burgos chose two dresses, one for the prom and one for the graduation.
“I really like it, and I want to say’thank you’,” she said.
After the prom, students can either return the clothes so that someone else can wear them next year, or they can keep them.
