London (AP)-Police release a man arrested in Northern Ireland earlier this week in connection with the deaths of 21 people in two pub bombings in the city of Birmingham in central England in 1974. did.
West Midlands police said Friday they released a 65-year-old child after searching his home in Belfast. The investigation will continue.
“Make sure the victims’ families and the people of Birmingham are constantly working to find the bombers and bring them to justice,” police officer Kenny Bell said in a statement.
The arrest followed last year’s investigation into the bombing, during which time there were unidentified Irish Republican volunteers who nominated four men he said were responsible for the bombing.
The failure of the police investigation shortly after the bombing led to the illegal conviction of six people who became known as Birmingham Six. They were released in 1991 after their conviction was abandoned.
