Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro says he will not be vaccinated against COVID-19

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said Thursday he would not be vaccinated against COVID-19.

“I’m telling you, I’m not going to take it. That’s my right,” Bolsonaro said in a live broadcast streamed on multiple social media platforms.

Right-wing leaders also said Congress is unlikely to require Brazilians to be vaccinated.

Bolsonaro, an avid supporter of President Trump, has repeatedly downplayed the seriousness of the coronavirus pandemic, despite being infected with a bug in the summer.

Earlier this month he landed in hot water while complaining about the deadly outbreak of his country because he used a homophobic slur.

“But we will die someday. There is no point in escaping reality. We have to stop becoming a country of f-gs … we have to fight in the face of it. “He said at the time.

Brazil has the second highest number of deaths from the coronavirus in the world after the United States.

Bolsonaro on Thursday also questioned the effectiveness of wearing a facial cover to control the spread of COVID-19.
