A Republican in Michigan, who criticized Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s curfew, announced on Monday that he tested positive for the coronavirus and urged people to follow public health guidelines.
Rep. Tim Walberg, 69, said he was experiencing mild symptoms of COVID-19 and learned that he had tested positive for the disease on Sunday.
“It’s been over a week since I attended the public event. Working with health authorities, my office and I are in the process of contacting individuals we contact before self-quarantine begins,” Walberg said. Said in a statement..
“When we enter the winter months, I recommend that everyone remain vigilant and adhere to public health guidelines to fight this virus.”
Wahlberg, one of Michigan’s six Republicans, asks Whitmer to amend the blockade order rather than “unnecessarily shutting down much of the economy and further limiting the lives of its inhabitants.” I signed the letter I asked for.
Bill Huizenga, who also signed the letter, became the first member of the Michigan State Parliament delegation to test positive for COVID-19 last month, according to the Detroit Free Press.
On Monday, Democrat Illinois General Assembly Cheri Bustos also said she would catch the virus, quarantine herself, and work away from home.
“We all need to continue to pay attention to following public health best practices. Wear masks, reduce social distance, get flu shots, and wash your hands.” She said..
“The only way to control this pandemic is to work together.”
In his statement, Wahlberg, who was reelected to serve District 7 of Michigan earlier this month, praised medical professionals and frontline workers in the pandemic.
Their work is “heroic and I continue to appreciate their dedication,” he said.
Michigan reported 12,763 new COVID-19 cases and 55 deaths from the virus on Monday, bringing the number of confirmed infections to 264,576 and the death toll to 8,049.
