“Back to the Future” musical that takes flying DeLorean to Broadway

We don’t need roads where we go — we need to sell tickets!

A new musical for “Back to the Future” based on Robert Zemeckis’s 1985 classic science fiction movie starring Michael J. Fox. Opening on Broadway in 2023The producer announced on Wednesday.

Sources told the post that Time Travel DeLorean will land at the Winter Garden Theater next spring. There, “Musicman” starring Hugh Jackman is currently waiting for Wells Fargo Wagon.

Wolverine departs when his contract expires, and a decent bankable star won’t be recast, sources close to production said. It makes sense. Jackman just listed his West Village home for $ 38.9 million.

Last summer I saw “Back to the Future” at the Adelphi Theater in London. Thankfully, the show only covers the first flick, so there’s no Biff baseball book or Wild West shootout. And it’s very musical. Marty, Doc and George sing and dance about the flux condenser (“It Works”) and a little more about how George beats Lorraine (“Gotta Start Somewhere”).

The problem is, unfortunately, all these weird songs. None of Glen Ballard’s new songs are good. The strange dream sequence number called “21st Century” that begins Act 2 looks like a new era cult ritual. Huey Lewis’s “Power of Love” and Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode” have 1.21 gigawatts of energy.

And the non-singing section is also very fun. In particular, the impressive DeLorean that partially flies over the audience, lights up and rotates. Broadway has been postponed for a new chandelier or helicopter from the UK.

Casting hasn’t been confirmed yet, but talented British actor Olly Dobson plays Marty McFly in London, capturing every change and Mannerism in the film. Broadway powerhouse Roger Bart plays Dock Brown. Don’t expect to see Dobson, according to the producers. However, Bart, who played a similar role in “Young Frankenstein,” could come to New York, such as Christopher Lloyd’s wig.

“Back to the Future” boasts a great title that appeals to tourists and has surpassed the heavy hitter “Moulin Rouge” to win the Best Musical Award at this year’s Olivier Awards. And “frozen”. However, another work “Rocky Musical” that played Winter Garden in 2014 also comes to mind. The boxing show had name recognition, astounding technical achievements, and poor scores. It closed as a huge flop.

It’s easy to see how powerful the “Power of Love” is.
