Another shooting rocks Coney Island community

A Brooklyn high school student was shot a second time this week, according to New York Police Department officials.

According to sources, NY1’s latest victim attends Lincoln High School.

“How do I feel?” said Kira Glazer, who was visiting her husband when she heard the news.

Police said the victim, a 17-year-old man, was shot in the abdomen shortly after 1 p.m. Friday, not far from Lincoln High School, near Neptune Avenue and Ocean Parkway.

Bystanders, including other students, were seen standing around the victim in the street.

Police described the suspect in the shooting as a man wearing a sweatshirt, black pants and a black backpack. The suspect’s age is unknown.

Friday’s shooting comes two days after NYPD officials said 15-year-old man dies After being shot in the abdomen Wednesday afternoon at McLaughlin Park in Brooklyn.

“I was just at work when I heard a loud boom,” said Shaquanna Thompson.

The student was confirmed dead from his injuries.

“Going back to school is always a concern,” said NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig. “We have shooting victims, shooting perpetrators getting younger and younger, and that is a big concern for us.”

Some neighbors near the scene of Friday’s shooting in Coney Island said the presence of law enforcement did not appear to deter gun violence.

“They have a security officer, but I don’t think that’s enough,” said Reverend Jordan. “They call it school safety, but I don’t think that’s enough.”

It only amplifies anxiety and worry.

“How could people shoot each other? How?” Glazer said.

A 17-year-old boy who was killed in Friday’s shooting is expected to survive, police said. No arrests have been made in connection with the Coney Island shooting.
