New York (CBSNewYork) — It was another violent night in New York City, with at least seven shootings and three killings.
Some of the incidents happened in Brooklyn in just a few hours.
Police said a 33-year-old man was on his way to a cooking class after a major battle on Menahan Street in Bushwick at 11:00 pm. He was shot dead in the hospital and sentenced to death.
It is unknown whether he is the intended target or an innocent bystander.
Since 9 pm Wednesday, there have been at least five shots in Brooklyn from East Flatbush to Gravesend and three shots in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
In a similar scene in Bronx, police said two people were shot dead near Marion Avenue and East 194th Street at around 11:30 pm. The woman did not survive and a 31-year-old man was listed in a critical condition at St. Barnabas Hospital.
Violent nights have been added to the growing list of shootings this year. As of June 13, there were 634 shootings, an increase of 64% compared to 2020.
