Amazon orders company employees to relocate as part of office return policy

Amazon has asked some workers to relocate to other cities as part of its plans. Return to office policyrequires workers to be in the office three days a week.

An Amazon spokeswoman confirmed the move on Friday, but declined to comment on media reports that the tech giant is asking some employees from its smaller offices to move to its headquarters in a big city.

Amazon has not provided details on how many employees will need to be relocated. Amazon spokesman Brad Glasser said the company will provide a “relocation allowance” to employees who are asked to move and will consider exception requests on a case-by-case basis.

“There’s more energy, collaboration and connection as we work together at least three days a week, and we’re hearing that from many of our employees and businesses around the office,” Glasser said in a prepared statement.

“We continue to look at how best to bring more teams together in one place and will communicate directly with our employees when making decisions that impact them.”

The move marks an intensification of the company’s efforts to bring employees back to the office. In February, Amazon introduced a new policy requiring employees to be in the office three days a week. The policy took effect in May, with hundreds of office workers protesting outside the company’s Seattle headquarters. Amazon has traditionally let team leaders decide how their teams work.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said in February that the company had made the following decisions: bring back the workers After observing what worked during the pandemic. Among other things, the senior executive team monitors staff performance and discusses with other company leaders, he said. He said he concluded that employees tend to be more engaged personally and collaborate more easily.

The company has cut 27,000 jobs in the past few months.
