Allen, Herbert defeat the Chargers 34-28 against the Jets

Inglewood, CA (AP)-Keenan Allen sets Chargers franchise record at 16 receptions, Justin Herbert throws 366 yards and three touchdowns, Los Angeles wins no New York on Sunday Defeated the Jets 34-28. 3 games in a row.

The high catch days helped Allen connect Antonio Brown as the fastest player to reach the 600 receptions. Both reached the mark in the 96th career game. It’s also Allen’s sixth game with more than 13 receptions, by the most players in NFL history.

Allen had a 145-yard receive and a 13-yard TD in the third quarter to extend the Chargers (3-7) lead to 31-13. New York will meet within 34-28 in the fourth quarter with a 1-yard run by Frank Gore and a 6-yard pass to Joe Flacco’s Chris Hardan.

New York (0-10) made the worst start in franchise history, but with less than a minute left, headed for the Chargers 32 and turned the ball down.

Having completed 37 out of 49 passes, Herbert once again spent the day establishing the rookie’s superlatives. He extended the mark on multiple touchdown passes with a 7, played his fifth 300-yard pass game, and reached that mark as the fifth rookie in league history.

Herbert’s 39-yard connection with Mike Williams became the fifth QB in league history at the beginning of the second quarter, reaching a 20TD pass in less than nine games. It was also part of the first half that he had the most rookie first half completions (23), attempts (31) and yards (277) since at least 1991.

Flacco started his fourth match in place of the injured Sam Darnold, so two touchdowns were 15 out of 30 in 205 yards. He struggled in the first half and included a first-quarter pick 6 to Tevaon Campbell, who gave the Chargers a 7-6 lead in the first quarter.

Jets: Both RB Ramical Perine and OT Georgefant suffered an ankle injury and did not return.

Chargers: DE Uchenna Nwosu did not return due to a shoulder injury in the second quarter. CB Casey Hayward Jr. (groin) did not return after being injured in the second half. Linebacker and top tackler Kyzir White was unable to play in the match after being on the Reserve / COVID-19 list on Saturday.

Trouble of special team

Tylerlong had a third punt block in four weeks as a special team mistake affected the Chargers again, leading to Jets’ first touchdown.

Jets defensive lineman Henry Anderson was blown away by Joshua Kelly and didn’t give Long a chance to kick off. Quentin Williams regained the ball with the Chargers 29, and Perine climbed the middle five yards to 6-0. This is the fourth consecutive game Jets has scored in the opening round.

Instead of risking the punt being blocked in the second half of the fourth quarter, Long struck the end zone to ensure safety.

Special team issues weren’t limited to the Chargers. Jets kicker Sam Ficken missed two points in his recovery from an inguinal injury and lost him in three games.
