A man who was fatally shot by police after firing at a police officer outside St. John the Divine Cathedral

Morningside Heights (WABC) in Manhattan-A man was shot dead by police after a bullet rang at the end of a Christmas concert on the stairs of St. John on Sunday afternoon.

Police responded to the scene before 4 pm, outside the cathedral on 112th Street and Amsterdam Avenue, seeking a report from a man with two guns.

When the police arrived at the scene, the suspect shot the police and the police fired. The suspect was shot dead, taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, and later died.

Christmas Carols were gathering at the cathedral around 3 pm. According to police officials, the man accessed the top of the stairs and began firing in the air.

Gale Brewer, Mayor of Manhattan, tweeted that her staff and spokesman attended the concert, but was never injured in the shooting.

No police officers or bystanders were injured in the shooting.
