A man who was fatally shot by police after firing at a police officer outside St. John the Divine Cathedral

Morningside Heights (WABC) in Manhattan-A man who fired at the end of a Christmas concert on the stairs of St. John was shot dead by police on Sunday afternoon.

Police responded to the scene before 4 pm, outside the cathedral on 112th Street and Amsterdam Avenue, seeking a report from a man with two guns.

When the police arrived, the suspect shot the police and the police fired. The man was shot, taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, and later died.

The NYPD holds the latest information on shooting.

Christmas Carols were gathering at the cathedral around 3 pm. According to police officials, the man accessed the top of the stairs and began firing in the air.

Witnesses say they heard the man say, “Shoot me and kill me!”

Gale Brewer, Mayor of Manhattan, tweeted that her Chief of Staff and spokesman were present at the concert but were not injured in the shooting.

No police officers or bystanders were injured in the shooting.

The parishioners were seen raising their hands and leaving the church.

Nothing is said about the motive for the shooting.

Gunman’s name has not been published.
