8 injured, suspect arrested near James Madison University

Eight people were injured in an early morning shooting near the campus of James Madison University in Virginia on Sunday, police said.
At least one shooter opened fire on the crowd during the rally after 2 a.m., leaving non-life-threatening injuries to each of the victims, according to Harrisonburg Police.
Authorities arrested Tyreef Isaiah Fleming, 20, on Sunday and beat him on multiple charges, including attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The shooting occurred less than a mile from the university campus in Harrisonburg, Northern Virginia. Each victim, aged between 18 and 27, was hospitalized, officials said.
Harrisonburg Police Chief Kelly Warner said: “We thank all first responders for their prompt response and the hard work of our officers in identifying and detaining the suspect.
“Our work continues on this incident as we investigate all aspects of this incident and determine whether other individuals were involved. As additional information becomes available, we will keep the community updated. be provided.”
Harrisonburg Mayor Deanna Reid called the shooting “unacceptable.”

“There is no place for this kind of violence in our society. I always swear to my heart.No one or anything can shake us from that belief.
“I call on everyone in our community to support those who are suffering today,” Reed said.
Founded in 1908, James Madison University has more than 21,000 students. No university students were among the victims, the university’s police chief said Sunday.
James Madison University Police issued a shelter-in-place notice after the shooting, urging students to “keep thinking about the victim until he recovers.”
