  1. The shoot took place on Saturday around 2:30 pm at the Tops Friendly Markets supermarket on Jefferson Avenue in Buffalo. The supermarket is primarily in the Black district, a few miles from downtown Buffalo. The surrounding area is primarily a residential area, close to the Family Dollar Store and Fire Department.
  2. A total of 13 people were shot dead. Ten casualties were killed at the scene, and three were injured in what seemed to be life-threatening. Four of the victims of the shooting were clerk, including a retired Buffalo police officer hired as a security guard. The remaining victims were customers. Eleven of the victims are African-American and two are Caucasian.
  3. The suspect was a white man who was detained at the shooting site. He has been identified as 18-year-old Payton S. Gendron in Conklin, NY. Authorities say Gendron has traveled “hours” to carry out the attack. Gendron was arrested for one murder and remanded without bail.
  4. Gendron was heavily armed and allegedly wore body armor and tactical equipment. This includes the camera-equipped helmet he used to livestream the shoot. In a statement, streaming platform Twitch said, “Twitch has a zero-tolerance policy against all types of violence and strives to respond quickly to all incidents. Users will be out of service indefinitely. And we are taking appropriate steps. Actions that include monitoring accounts that rebroadcast this content. “
  5. The FBI is investigating this shooting as a hate crime and a radically motivated violent extremism. At a press conference on Saturday evening, Governor Kathy Hokul called the suspect “a white supremacist engaged in terrorist acts and charged with it.”
