1 person stabbed in front of Microsoft headquarters

One person was seriously injured after being stabbed in front of a Microsoft campus building in Redmond, Washington, local officials said. The suspect fled the scene but was taken into custody after a standoff that lasted several hours.
The incident occurred around 5:50 pm on Wednesday when officers were called upon to attack with weapons at the corner of NE 156th and NE 28th Streets in Redmond.
Most of the activity was seen in front of One Esterra, one of the new buildings at the tech giant’s headquarters. An alert sent by Microsoft Security reported a “stab to One Esterra”.
“Witnesses described a man approaching another man and stabbing him in the back,” said police spokeswoman Jill Green. “The victim was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. I was transported.”
The suspect, a Caucasian man in his 20s and 30s, fled the scene and barricaded himself in his nearby apartment at 152nd Avenue NE and NE Shen Street.
“Cops and negotiators tried in vain to bring out the suspect,” Green said. “As a result, the North Sound Metro SWAT was called in for assistance. At approximately 1:00 am today, SWAT issued a warrant and the suspect was taken into custody.”
There was no word on the victim’s identity or possible motives. Microsoft’s press office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
